We understand that being in an accident can be very stressful for everyone involved, which is why we aim to make the claims process as simple as possible.

As a first step, make sure that everyone involved is safe, and call emergency services if anyone is injured.

WHAT YOU NEED TO MAKE A CLAIM

Make sure to have this information ready:

  • Your policy documents
  • Information about other parties involved in the accident, such as name, car registration, address and phone number

This information would be useful, but it’s not required to make a claim:

  • Contact details of any witnesses
  • Crime reference number
  • Clear photos of the accident and the damage to the vehicles involved

Remember, never admit fault to an accident before speaking to us or your insurer

A No Claims Bonus, or NCB, is a discount that can be applied to your insurance premiums in recognition of your claims-free driving history. The discount may increase for each concurrent year you don’t claim against your policy, up to a maximum of around nine years.  

Protected No Claims Bonus is optional cover that you can choose to buy, which will prevent your No Claims Bonus being reduced in the event of an accident.
Your no claims bonus is protected for up to 2 claims in any consecutive 3 year period.

We will need to know if your vehicle has been in an accident, even if you don’t intend to make a claim immediately. This is usually a condition in your insurance policy so we can maintain your records accurately if you do wish to claim in the future.

A voluntary excess is an amount which you can choose to pay towards a claim when you are purchasing your policy. The voluntary excess you choose may influence your total premium price. 

A compulsory excess is set by your insurer upon quotation and is non-negotiable. The total compulsory excess can vary dependent on a number of factors, such as the policy type, your vehicle or your age.

Your total excess, which is the voluntary and compulsory excess combined, is the amount you would need to pay in the event of a claim. For example, if your policy has a compulsory excess of £200 and a voluntary excess of £200, you would need to pay £400 towards the costs of the claim. 

Before purchasing your policy, you should always consider whether you can afford the total excess  should you need to make a claim.

We accept the following as proof of No Claims Bonus (NCB). These need to be dated within the last two years:

  • A No Claims Bonus letter or email from your previous insurer
  • A renewal notice (as long as it contains a policy number)
  • A cancellation letter from your last policy

The proof of No Claims needs to show the following information:

  • The number of No Claims Bonus years you have built up
  • Your name
  • Your last insurer
  • The date of issue

If you purchased your policy after 21st November 2023, or it is set to renew after 21st December 2023, you can now upload these documents safely and securely online 24/7 in My Account.
